Salve Regina University is a coeducational university of the arts and sciences. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, the university is a Catholic institution chartered in Rhode Island in 1934. The curriculum integrates liberal arts and professional education within the Catholic intellectual tradition and its social teaching. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor beginning in September 1, 2015. The teaching load is 4/3, which may include courses in the University’s interdisciplinary Core Curriculum.

Desired areas of specialization: medieval philosophy with an emphasis on Aquinas, moral philosophy and related fields. Areas of competence should include the field of applied ethics, such as in the medical or business areas. The candidate should be well grounded in Western philosophy and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Commitment to and demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching and scholarship is required. A record of publication will be an asset. Support for the University’s Catholic mission is expected. There may be opportunities to teach courses in the University’s Pell Honors Program. The University of Chicago’s Committee on Conceptual and Historical Studies of Science invites applications for a position as Instructor beginning September 2015, with a two-year nonrenewable term. Applicants should have received a PhD within the last five years, and not already hold a tenure-track position. Expertise should be in the areas of History, Philosophy, or Sociology of Science. Applications are welcome from all periods and areas of science, though we have a particular interest in Philosophy of Biology. This is a research and teaching post-doctoral position, requiring two courses be taught in the academic year--Chicago is on the quarter system, with three terms to the academic year. Applicants should have interests that go beyond the research specialties they profess. Chicago’s programs are quite interdisciplinary, and so candidates should be ready to interact with faculty and students from an array of different specialties. The University of Cologne (Germany) offers a doctoral scholarship in the philosophy of cognitive science. The candidate is expected to develop a dissertation within the project “Causal Relations in Neuroscientific Explanations” led by Dr Vera Hoffmann-Kolss (Cologne). The Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture of KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy and the Faculty of Architecture of KU Leuven welcomes applicants for one fully-funded two-year PhD-Fellowship, renewable for a second period of two years, in Philosophy of Art on Architectural Theory. The PhD-fellow will work in the research context of the Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture (KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy) and the research group Architectural Cultures of the Recent Past (KU Leuven's Faculty of Architecture).

The project for which the funding is available aims to develop an analysis of the connection between religious and philosophical concepts and the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism from the period 1945-1970. The project situates itself on the crossroads between intellectual/art history, philosophy and theology. It has both a historiographical and a conceptual aim. The fellowship is part of the project Apocryphal and Apostolic Modernism. Forgotten Connections between religion and architectural modernism, 1945-1970, funded by the Research Fund KU Leuven. The successful applicant will write a PhD-dissertation within the overarching theme of aesthetics and architectural theory. The project is chaired by Prof. Stéphane Symons and by Prof. Rajesh Heynickx.

Start date: 1 February 2015 or as soon as possible.

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

• The motivation to pursue creative work in aesthetics and architectural theory;
• An explicit interest in the following research questions; In what way has religious thinking, mostly of Catholic origin, influenced the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism? and In what way did non-religious, philosophical and aesthetic concepts influence the theoretical discourse on religious architecture?
• An MA (or equivalent) in Philosophy, Art History, Intellectual History, Cultural History, Architecture or Theology and academic distinction;
• The ability to present research results at conferences, and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• The ability to play an active role in the research group (including its seminars);
• An excellent command of English; proficiency in French and/or German; a willingness to learn Dutch is a plus;

The Foundational Research Institute ( http://foundational-research.org/ ) is a new nonprofit research organization devoted to reducing suffering in humanity’s future. We combine insights from artificial intelligence, technology, anthropic reasoning, international relations, sociology, public policy, ethics, animal welfare, and many other disciplines.

We’re looking for a research fellow or intern who will explore one or more of our topics of focus -- drawing connections between academic insights and their implications for altruism and reducing suffering. The Civilization Sequence Program (CVSP) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for two positions at the Assistant Professor rank, and one two-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor, all beginning on September 1, 2015. Applicants should be able to work within an interdisciplinary program and combine disciplinary interests in two of the following fields: history of ideas, comparative literature, and/or Arab/Islamic studies. The program has an interest in candidates who cover the classical epochs or the early-modern period. Applications will be considered for all positions unless a preference is specified in the applicant’s cover letter.
The CVSP is a service program that offers a number of interdisciplinary undergraduate humanities courses. Course load is normally 3/2 over a two-semester year. The language of instruction is English. Successful candidates for these positions must be prepared to teach core courses from the ancient to contemporary periods in addition to courses close to their own research fields within the overall CVSP mission. They are also expected to contribute to other interdisciplinary initiatives at AUB.

indexicals - Centre of transdisciplinary cognitive and therory of the state sciences is a private scientific research institution based in Austria, Graz and Vienna, and conneted internationally to outstanding Universities. It was created by the philosopher Josephine Papst.
