The Department of Cognitive Science in the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for a non-tenure track, fixed-term-appointment Lecturer of Philosophy. We seek candidates whose area of specialization and competency includes some permutation of Philosophy of Science, Logic, Philosophy of Mathematics, Ethics, Philosophy of Mind. The Department of Cognitive Science offers unique opportunities for students to focus on the scientific study of mind, brain, and intelligence. The successful candidate will have a record of achievement in teaching and research of philosophy and teach courses such as Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, or Philosophy of Biology. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated successful teaching experience at the collegiate level. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or foreign-degree equivalent in Philosophy or an appropriate related field of study.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Normative Theory

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship to be held at the University of Toronto Centre for Ethics during the 2014-15 academic year. We welcome candidates with substantial normative research interests from diverse backgrounds including philosophy, law, and the social sciences. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in theories of distributive justice, moral psychology, or ethics in cross-cultural perspective, but we welcome all applicants with a strong interest in normative theory.

The successful candidate will teach two single-semester courses for Trinity College, participate in the seminar and workshop series at the Centre for Ethics, and help to develop an inter-disciplinary ethics community across campus. The appointment term is from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, at a combined research and teaching stipend of $42,500 per year. Applicants must have completed all requirements for their PhD by June 30, 2014. Candidates must also be no more than 3 years from the awarding of their degree, and cannot have accepted or hold a tenure-track position.

Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, is seeking candidates for the position of a philosophy instructor. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching an introductory course in philosophy to the B.A. students as well as conducting seminars on the philosophy of knowledge and/or philosophy of technology for the M.A. students. Program Fellows must be accepted as post-doctoral researchers by Israeli host institutions, which agree to provide them with a standard post-doctoral grant, which they will receive in addition to their Fulbright Fellowship. Thus, the total financial support received by Program Fellows is likely to be in the range of at least $35,000-$40,000 per year.
