Primary Function: The Assistant Professor, Philosophy is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline. Specifically, these courses include Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Logic, Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Human Nature, Philosophy in Literature, and Asian Philosophies.
Minimum Qualifications: Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under a) through c):
A Master’s degree in philosophy.
A Master’s degree in humanities or religious studies AND a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either a) or b) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which include degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a tenure earning Assistant Professor position in Ethics and Digital Culture beginning in August 2015. This is a shared position between the Department of Philosophy and the Texts and Technology Ph.D. program, and the successful candidate will be involved in both areas. This is a 9-month per year position with an expected teaching load (pre-tenure) of 5 courses per academic year, with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is pending budgetary approval.
A Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field from an accredited university is required by the time of hire.
The successful candidate will have a research specialization in the study of ethics and digital culture. This could include areas such as: ethical dimensions of new media, ethics and digital pedagogy, the ways that digital environments affect ethical action, social behavior and social justice using digital tools or in digital environments, ethics in gaming, and/or ethics in digital humanities, rhetoric, history, media or communications. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Demonstrated competence in teaching courses such as Virtual Ethics and Ethical Theory is preferred, as is experience with teaching large classes and/or experience or willingness to develop web-based instruction. Thesis direction at the graduate and undergraduate level will be expected, as will participation in program and course development.
Preference may be given to candidates who also have:
• Experience with teaching large classes.
• Experience with or willingness to develop web-based instruction.
• A strong history of publication
• Proficiency in the use of digital tools, programs, or environments, including coding ability.
• A demonstrated history of – or strong potential for –obtaining external funding

The Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture of KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy and the Faculty of Architecture of KU Leuven welcomes applicants for one fully-funded two-year PhD-Fellowship, renewable for a second period of two years, in Philosophy of Art on Architectural Theory. The PhD-fellow will work in the research context of the Centre for Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Culture (KU Leuven's Institute of Philosophy) and the research group Architectural Cultures of the Recent Past (KU Leuven's Faculty of Architecture).
The project for which the funding is available aims to develop an analysis of the connection between religious and philosophical concepts and the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism from the period 1945-1970. The project situates itself on the crossroads between intellectual/art history, philosophy and theology. It has both a historiographical and a conceptual aim. The fellowship is part of the project Apocryphal and Apostolic Modernism. Forgotten Connections between religion and architectural modernism, 1945-1970, funded by the Research Fund KU Leuven. The successful applicant will write a PhD-dissertation within the overarching theme of aesthetics and architectural theory. The project is chaired by Prof. Stéphane Symons and by Prof. Rajesh Heynickx.
Start date: 1 February 2015 or as soon as possible.
We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
• The motivation to pursue creative work in aesthetics and architectural theory;
• An explicit interest in the following research questions; In what way has religious thinking, mostly of Catholic origin, influenced the theoretical discourse on architectural modernism? and In what way did non-religious, philosophical and aesthetic concepts influence the theoretical discourse on religious architecture?
• An MA (or equivalent) in Philosophy, Art History, Intellectual History, Cultural History, Architecture or Theology and academic distinction;
• The ability to present research results at conferences, and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
• The ability to play an active role in the research group (including its seminars);
• An excellent command of English; proficiency in French and/or German; a willingness to learn Dutch is a plus;

The Foundational Research Institute ( http://foundational-research.org/ ) is a new nonprofit research organization devoted to reducing suffering in humanity’s future. We combine insights from artificial intelligence, technology, anthropic reasoning, international relations, sociology, public policy, ethics, animal welfare, and many other disciplines.
We’re looking for a research fellow or intern who will explore one or more of our topics of focus -- drawing connections between academic insights and their implications for altruism and reducing suffering.
