St Augustine seeks to appoint a Head of the Department of Philosophy at the rank of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be responsible for
• Oversight and development of the Philosophy programmes

• Initiate, coordinate and conduct academic research and research projects
• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Participate in other aspects of the work of St Augustine

Applicants must possess or demonstrate the following:
• A Doctoral degree in Philosophy
• An area of specialisation (AOS) in Ethics or History of Philosophy. Areas of competency (AOC) are open, African Philosophy a plus
• An understanding of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition
• The capacity to teach over a substantial breadth. This will be considered an asset
• Teaching experience within a multicultural setting
• Strong skills in verbal communication and inter-personal relationships
• A very good publication record and relevant research experience
• The ability to work as part of team
• Previous experience in lecturing at tertiary level as a strong recommendation

Postdoctoral fellowship: experimental philosophy and empirical ethics

The University of Warwick is seeking to appoint a full-time, one-year postdoctoral fellow based in the Department of Philosophy, as part of the research grant 'experimental philosophy and empirical ethics: a historical reconstruction and philosophical assessment' (XPHI), funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The successful candidate will study the viability of an empirical science of ethics. He or she will join a research team working on the metaphysical and theological commitments of early modern experimental philosophers, eighteenth-century attempts to articulate an experimental moral philosophy, and recent proposals for locating moral philosophy within an experimental philosophy framework. The team is formed by Dr Alberto Vanzo (PI, Warwick), Professor Peter Anstey (Sydney) and Professor Tom Sorell (Warwick).

The successful candidate will prepare research articles, conference presentations and blog posts on his or her research, co-organise a workshop that will form the basis for a special journal issue or an edited volume, and participate in the project's outreach activities.

The Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 10 month 100% full time limited term position at the Lecturer/Assistant Professor level, effective August 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
Areas of specialization: Feminism and Social and Political Philosophy. Area of competence: Environmental Ethics. Expertise in some aspect of the History of Philosophy is an asset.

The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with some limited graduate student supervision and committee work. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. Course load is expected to be the equivalent of 3 and 3. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following half-year courses: 2nd-year intro to feminism, 3rd-year feminist theories survey class, 2nd-year class, “Justice in Global Perspective”, 2nd-year class in environmental ethics; and another class, topic to be negotiated.

We have an open vacancy for a project assistant in the framework of the LogiCIC project on 'The Logical Structure of Correlated Information Change' (ERC-2011-STG No. 283963), funded by the European Research Council and the European Community under the Seventh Framework Programme. The LogiCIC project team currently consists of two PhD candidates, one postdoctoral researcher and the Principal investigator Sonja Smets. The new Project assistant will support the team in its main organizational and communication tasks. The appointment is for 16 hours per week, and is on a temporary basis for a period of maximum 18 months, with an initial trial period of two months. Postdoctoral Research Associate in Values and Public Life

The University Center for Human Values invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Values and Public Life. We aim to appoint a highly promising scholar trained in contemporary political theory to provide support for programs in the University Center for Human Values and to carry on a research agenda in his or her area of specialization.
The successful candidate will undertake a research project exploring a contemporary normative problem arising in domestic or global public life. The candidate will be expected to teach one course in the Center’s undergraduate Values and Public Life (VPL) certificate program, subject to sufficient enrollment and approval by the Dean of the Faculty. When s/he is teaching, the candidate will hold the additional title of Lecturer. In addition, the postdoc will conduct two sections of a non-credit senior thesis workshop under the supervision of the VPL faculty director. He/she will also provide some support for and participate in the Center’s Democracy Project.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by August 1, 2015 and must not have held the degree for more than three years by that date. They may not be employed by another institution during the term of their Princeton appointment.
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant’s previous accomplishments, experience relevant to the undergraduate certificate program, and the promise of the proposed research project. Their capacity to contribute to the Center’s teaching program will also be taken into account.

We are looking for an excellent candidate in the field of global justice. We are interested in candidates with a background in the intersection of philosophy and economics. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of philosophy in the University’s “Governance & Responsibility” emerging field and its constituent programmes and initiatives.

The candidate will be expected to play an important role in our highly successful MA and BA Philosophy & Economics degree programmes. One 3-year doctoral fellowship to carry out a research project titled:
„The primacy of practical reason: an archaeology of Kant’s practical philosophy”

Profile: The candidate will conduct research with the aim of writing a doctoral thesis on the origin and ensuing modifications of the idea of the "primacy of practical reason" (over theoretical reason) in pre-Kantian philosophy (addressing, for instance, authors like Thomasius, Crusius or Baumgarten as far as the 18th century is concerned). The thesis can be written in French or in English, but the candidate must be able to present his/her research and to take part in seminars in French. From the first year, active participation in the doctoral program and the activities of the Research Center in Philosophy (http://phi.ulb.ac.be/) and of the Research Group in Modern Philosophy, as well as contributions to journals and international conferences are expected. The candidate may have small administrative tasks (organization of conferences, etc.) within the ARC project.

Post-doctoral position, 2015-2016 academic year. PhD in Philosophy (must be completed at time of application) with a background in ethics. A strong interest in business ethics is preferred. Duties include 1) in the fall semester, working with other faculty to develop and deliver curricula for applied ethics courses, including some directed to business students, and, in the spring semester, offering two courses as sole instructor; 2) organizational and committee work related to launching and developing our department’s servicing of a business ethics requirement (e.g. lining up guest speakers); 3) continuation of the candidate's own research program in ethics, with opportunity for consultation with philosophy faculty.
