Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) seeks applicants for Assistant Professor of Bioethics. The University offers a Masters of Arts in Bioethics in three degree tracts: a DO/MA dual degree earned over four years, a one-year Masters program, and a career enhancement tract where practicing professionals earn their degree on a part-time basis. In a rich and varied curriculum, the Department of Bioethics approaches the study of bioethics broadly by drawing on the perspectives of philosophy, the medical humanities, humanism, and the “softer” side of the social sciences. The department has close affiliation with area hospitals and the Center for Practical Bioethics.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in ethics or a field related to bioethics-broadly defined. An advanced clinician’s degree (in medicine, nursing, etc.) and experience teaching bioethics will also make applicants eligible for consideration. Responsibilities include teaching in the Masters program and in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, carrying on an active program of research, assisting with the continued growth and development of the department, and contributing to the overall advancement of the university. The successful candidate is expected to work on a topic of legal philosophy or a topic that combines issues of legal and political philosophy. 2 Junior Researchers (PhD positions) on Renaissance Humanism and the History of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, seeks 2 junior researchers for the research programme “Humanists as Philosophers: The Place of Renaissance Humanism in the History of Thought”, led by Professor Lodi Nauta and funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

The text of the programme can be obtained by sending an email to Mrs Fré Moorrees (F [dot] C [dot] Moorrees [__at__] rug [dot] nl). It consists of 6 well-delineated research projects. The applicant can work on one of these projects but can also submit his/her own research proposal as long as it ties in with the main objectives of the programme.

Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is the second-oldest university in the Netherlands. Its Faculty of Philosophy has an excellent reputation both in teaching and research, and occupies a top position in national rankings. It offers a lively and friendly intellectual community of about 45 teachers and researchers, and ca. 350 full-time students. A number of researchers come from abroad. The History of Philosophy department covers the entire history of philosophy from classical Antiquity to contemporary trends.
The University Library in Groningen is a good research library, while the other main university libraries in the Netherlands are reachable in 2-3 hours by train.

PhD
- PhD-positions are for four years on a full-time basis (contract for 1 year, with an extension of 3 years after a positive evaluation). The PhD will write a doctoral dissertation and may be asked to do some teaching.
- Applicants should possess an MA (or equivalent) in the history of philosophy, (intellectual) history, or classics/literature. Candidates with an MA from adjacent fields relevant to the programme are also encouraged to respond.
- Knowledge of Dutch is no prerequisite.

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Freiburg invites applications for the position of Assistant Professorship/Juniorprofessur in Philosophy (W1) with tenure-track option - Bertha Ottenstein Professorship.
The Bertha Ottenstein Professorship is an initiative to support promising female researchers. The position is based on a temporary appointment with tenure-track option. It is funded by means of the German Excellence Initiative.
The successful candidate will lead a research group and conduct research on “Grammar – Logic – Rhetoric: Conceptions of Language at the Crossroads of Scientific Disciplines and Social Groups in Arabic-Islamic Culture (800-1100)” which has been granted a strategic position within the Faculty of Philosophy. Duties include research, teaching, thesis supervision, and service to the Faculty. Applications of highly qualified female researchers are particularly welcome. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Philosophy and a demonstrated competence in Islamic Studies. Evidence of outstanding research excellence (including demonstrated international and cross-cultural experience) and management potential are required. The Center for the History of Philosophy and Science of the Faculty of Philosophy of Radboud University Nijmegen seeks an outstanding junior researcher for a project in the history of philosophy and/or science. Applicants are invited to submit a project proposal (max. 2000 words), which should attempt to fit into the Center’s overall programme. The junior position will involve the writing of a doctoral (PhD) dissertation, participation in the activities of the Center and (possibly) teaching at the Faculty of Philosophy. You have an MA (or equivalent) in the history of philosophy and/or science, and possess the language skills necessary to study the primary sources in the original language and to read the relevant secondary literature. Lectureship in Jewish philosophy (2 hours of teaching, 3 years: renewable)
The requirements are possession of a doctorate or of an equivalent title, a solid experience of academic research and teaching in the field and a record of international publications.
The successful candidate will give a teaching in the history of Jewish thought, focusing, depending on his or her specialisation, on the history of this tradition of thought or on its contemporary aspects. An interaction with research within other fields taught the department, in particular medieval philosophy, is hoped for. Teaching is normally done in French.
