The School invites applications from qualified individuals for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, to be tenable in the Centre for Time, Department of Philosophy, SOPHI in the Faculty of Arts.

Successful applicants will join the Pragmatic Foundations Project, established in association with a second ARC Federation Fellowship awarded to Professor Huw Price in 2007. The appointees will be expected to conduct research in an area of philosophy of relevance to the project; to assist in organising research workshops and conferences; vigorously to pursue new external research funding in support of these activities, both individually and in collaboration with other researchers; and to assist in the supervision of postgraduate research students.

The successful applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of philosophy, and very strong evidence of research performance and potential at international level. Experience in the organisation of research networks, workshops and seminars, and evidence of ability to work cooperatively with others, are desirable.

The positions are full-time fixed term for up to two years, by arrangement, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period. In den Positionen erwartet Sie:
Sie werden innerhalb der Forschergruppe des INM-8 vor allem ethische, rechtswissenschaftliche und rechtsethische Analysen zu den genannten Themen selbstständig erarbeiten und an der Konzeption von wissenschaftlichen Forschungsprojekten und Veranstaltungen des INM-8 inhaltlich und organisatorisch mitwirken.

Wir erwarten von Ihnen:
• abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (Master, Magister oder Staatsexamen) im Bereich der praktischen Philosophie, der Philosophie des Geistes oder der Rechtswissenschaften (Kennziffer 189/2010JP)
oder
• abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium (Master, Magister oder Staatsexamen) mit Promotion im Bereich der praktischen Philosophie, der Philosophie des Geistes oder der Rechtswissenschaften (Kennziffer 190/2010JP)

Washington and Lee University is seeking an outstanding teacher of undergraduates and recognized scholar for the Rupert H. Johnson, Jr. Professorship in the College. The successful candidate will be an accomplished scholar working at the intersections of leadership and the history of ideas. The holder of the Johnson Professorship will have a record of significant scholarly publication that explores how individuals and ideas shape the course of history. Any area of historical focus in the liberal arts disciplines will be considered, including science, philosophy, religion, sociology, anthropology, history, literature, and the arts. The Johnson Professor’s scholarship should illuminate how historical circumstance, culture, and intellectual currents have framed solutions to specific challenges, and how individuals have responded to such contextual factors in ways that have advanced important fields of human endeavor. As important, the Johnson Professor will be a dedicated teacher capable of devising innovative courses that will help undergraduates both to understand the key role that ideas have played in shaping the possibilities for human action and to reflect deeply upon how individual values and actions can result in ethical, social and political leadership to one’s community and world.

This new endowed professorship is one of several university-wide initiatives funded by the Johnson Program in Leadership and Integrity. The Johnson Professor in the College will join the current Johnson Professor in Entrepreneurship and Leadership in the Williams School of Commerce, Economics and Politics. Together, the Johnson Professors will play a role in planning an annual colloquium and lecture series designed to bring to campus prominent scholars and recognized national and international leaders to interact with students and faculty around a chosen theme. The Johnson Professors will have a special role in mentoring outstanding students who are selected as Johnson Scholarship recipients; they will also help oversee the Johnson Summer Internship program in which rising seniors undertake internships and projects aimed at developing their own leadership potential.

The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in philosophy. Candidates should possess, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in philosophy and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to research. The successful candidate will have a specialization in analytic philosophy broadly construed, along with grounding in the full tradition of the history of philosophy. Flexibility in teaching a variety of undergraduate courses is expected. For example, the incumbent might teach introductory philosophy, logic, an upper-level sequence in the history of philosophy or of analytic philosophy, and one upper-level course in the philosophy of law, Islamic philosophy, or a special topics seminar in analytic philosophy.
