Applications are invited for a three-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict (ELAC) as part of a new collaborative research project with the 3TU. Centre for Ethics and Technology, Delft: ‘Military Enhancement: Design for Responsibility and Combat Systems’.

The post will specifically focus on the research theme ‘The Changing Context of the Ethics and Laws of War: Technology, Norms and Strategy’, working in close collaboration with one other Post-Doctoral Research Fellow based at 3TU and a Senior Research Network.

The project is funded by the Dutch Research Council NWO, and the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will be employed by the Delft University of Technology, but seconded to and based at the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) at the University of Oxford.

Applicants must have completed (or have evidence of imminent completion of) a doctorate in a relevant area, specifically Moral Philosophy or Law. The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at King’s University at The University of Western Ontario invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2013. The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Philosophy with an A.O.S. in Ancient Philosophy and an A.O.C. in Logic by the effected date of the appointment. A broad knowledge in the History of Philosophy and ethics would also be an asset.

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in, and commitment to, both teaching and research. The candidate’s research should focus on ancient philosophy broadly conceived. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach a broad range of courses from the introductory to advanced levels, contributing to the undergraduate program.

Replacement Instructor

Due to the sudden illness of a faculty member, the Philosophy Department at Queens College needs immediately a replacement instructor to teach, for the remainder of the semester, the following course:

PHIL 262: Heidegger's Lectures on Nietzsche. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:40 -2:55 PM. Around twenty students are enrolled.

The course is co-listed with a course in Philosophy's BA/MA Program; the instructor needs to be capable of teaching at a specialist level.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Values and Public Policy

The Princeton University Center for Human Values and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs invite applications for postdoctoral positions in Values and Public Policy. We aim to support highly promising scholars trained in moral and political philosophy, political theory, normative economics and related areas to develop a research agenda in the ethical dimensions of public policy.

Candidates selected will undertake a research project exploring a normative problem arising in an area of public policy in which the Woodrow Wilson School sponsors research. They will be affiliated with a unit of the School that can inform and support their work. They will also be invited to participate in programs of the University Center for Human Values. In most cases, candidates will be expected to contribute one course each year to the School’s undergraduate program on a topic related to ethical issues in public policy.

Applicants must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by September 1, 2012 and must not have held the degree for more than three years by that date. They may not be employed by another institution during the term of their Princeton appointment. Applicants’ dissertation research need not be specifically in values and public policy, but they will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to developing a research project in this area during their time at Princeton. Projects related to environmental policy, population and health, democratic institutions and processes, information technology policy and global governance may have an advantage, although we will consider proposals related to any area in which the School sponsors research.
