The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University invites outstanding teacher-scholars to apply for a tenure-track position to commence August 1, 2012. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the campus community. AOS: Ancient Philosophy and/or Virtue Ethics; AOC: open, but the department has a strong interest in candidates qualified to teach bio-ethics and/or environmental ethics/philosophy. The successful candidate will be well versed in the history of philosophy and qualified to teach both a two-semester historically structured introduction to philosophy, and a Moral Philosophy course, both requirements of the university’s core curriculum. Candidates may have the opportunity to teach in the masters program in philosophical studies and in the philosophy curriculum of the university’s seminary program. 7 undergraduate courses per year (2-3 preparations per semester), possible supervision of oral examinations and qualifying papers required of students in the masters program, and the usual non-teaching duties. The Department of Philosophy at Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2012. AOS: Philosophy of Peace and Non-Violence. AOC: Expertise in an underrepresented area of world philosophy such as Africana, Latino, Asian or Middle Eastern thought. Commitment to the ethos of the liberal arts tradition and a robust research trajectory should be specifically addressed in a letter of application. A full-time, continuing position is available in Philosophy at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. Philosophy is a key programme in the School of Social Sciences, with large first year classes, a sold cohort of majors and a modest graduate programme which is a priority for growth.

As the successful candidate, you will have the ability to teach environmental ethics and play a significant role in teaching of related philosophy subjects at the undergraduate and graduate level including: ethical theory, applied ethics and political philosophy. You must be an active researcher with proven ability to publish regularly in high quality international journals, and have a willingness to collaborate both nationally and internationally. Interdisciplinary research experience would be an advantage. You will have a PhD in philosophy, preferably specialising in ethics.

Current salary range for Lecturers is NZ$65,886 to $80,441 per year and for Senior Lecturers is NZ$82,468 to $110,614 per year.

John Brown University, independent, evangelical and Christian, seeks a full-time faculty member in Biblical Studies to teach in the traditional undergraduate program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching lower division Core classes as well as church history, historical theology, and Christian philosophy.

Additional expectations are: to develop new courses within the department and general interest courses to appeal to non-majors; be active in scholarship through publications and presentations at scholarly conferences; participate in departmental and faculty wide activities including advising and committee work.

The Division of Biblical Studies contributes to JBU’s mission of providing Christ-centered education that prepares people to honor God and serve others by developing their intellectual, spiritual, and professional lives by providing classes in Bible, theology, philosophy, and ministry/service.

Courses in this division help equip each student to be biblically literate, historically rooted, theologically reflective, doctrinally sound, and growing in Christ-like maturity in all relationships for the glory of God.

The religion and philosophy classes are specifically designed to equip those students who are planning to enter directly into ministry or further their studies in seminary or graduate school.

Requirements
An earned doctorate in bible/theology and/or philosophy is preferred. ABD will be considered; an M.Div. and/or ministry experience is helpful. Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential.
