The Department of Philosophy at the University of Winnipeg invites applications for one probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Subject to budgetary approval, the expected start date is July 1, 2024. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
The Department has a long commitment to an historical approach to Philosophy and Philosophical education. The successful candidate will teach a full-year introductory course in the History of Philosophy and courses in the History Stream of our offerings (see https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/academics/calendar/docs/phil.pdf). Priority will be given to candidates specializing in:
Ancient;
Early Modern; or
Twentieth-Century Philosophy
Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy, or have an expected completion date on or before June 30th, 2024. They must demonstrate evidence of high-quality research and a track-record of effective teaching in their application. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program, to teach undergraduate Philosophy courses (the normal teaching assignment is five half-year course equivalents), and to provide constructive service to the Department and University.

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Philosophy and World Religions seeks applicants for a renewable term appointment as an Instructor of Applied Ethics beginning in August 2024. This position is endowed through the David W. Wilson Endowment for Integrity and Excellence in the Wilson College of Business, with the specific purpose to expand ethics education across the campus, and the successful candidate will be a Wilson Ethics Fellow. The position has a 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Business Ethics and Professional Ethics and work collaboratively with UNI's Wilson College of Business within the context of its new ethics education initiatives. For the 2023-24 academic year, the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics will continue its focus on the theme of “A New Social Compact?” Variations in national responses to the pandemic; disparate experiments with technology, economic, and health policies; and conflicts over foundational political institutions have thrown into stark relief different conceptions of the social compact (a phrase we use loosely to refer to shared understandings of what members of societies believe they owe to each other) around the world. Myriad challenges—including challenges relating to education, climate and the natural environment, migration, new technologies, public health, elections, racial justice, and economic well-being—call us to revisit and evaluate existing conceptions of the social compact at both national and global levels. We ask, is it time for a new social compact?

For the 2023-24 academic year, the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics will continue its focus on the theme of “A New Social Compact?” Variations in national responses to the pandemic; disparate experiments with technology, economic, and health policies; and conflicts over foundational political institutions have thrown into stark relief different conceptions of the social compact (a phrase we use loosely to refer to shared understandings of what members of societies believe they owe to each other) around the world. Myriad challenges—including challenges relating to education, climate and the natural environment, migration, new technologies, public health, elections, racial justice, and economic well-being—call us to revisit and evaluate existing conceptions of the social compact at both national and global levels. We ask, is it time for a new social compact?
We invite applications connected to any dimension of this broad field of inquiry. We see the nature of the questions raised and the challenges to be addressed as so multifaceted as to make this theme not very restrictive; however, in our usual fashion, we will also consider applications that fall outside the parameters of this thematic description. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to early career scholars and practitioners.
Fellows-in-Residence will be expected to devote the majority of their time to their individual projects and to participate in regular work-in-progress seminars. In addition, Fellows are strongly encouraged to participate in the Center's programming, which includes public lectures, themed seminars and reading groups, conferences, workshops, and lunch discussions.
This Fellowship is intended to be residential. With the exception of travel to conferences and meetings, Fellows are expected to be in residence in the Boston area at least four working days per week during the term.

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the History of Modern Philosophy, broadly construed as covering philosophy from the 17th through the 19th century. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.
