The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Philosophy and World Religions seeks applicants for a renewable term appointment as an Instructor of Applied Ethics beginning in August 2024. This position is endowed through the David W. Wilson Endowment for Integrity and Excellence in the Wilson College of Business, with the specific purpose to expand ethics education across the campus, and the successful candidate will be a Wilson Ethics Fellow. The position has a 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Business Ethics and Professional Ethics and work collaboratively with UNI's Wilson College of Business within the context of its new ethics education initiatives. The position will also offer the possibility of teaching other courses in Religious Studies, in a variety of religious traditions, depending on the candidate's qualifications and interests and departmental needs. The Department is interested in candidates that will share the Department's commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and to engaged service (mentoring students, serving on committees, and offering programming on campus and in the wider community).

Associate Professor / Professor - Classical Islamic Philosophy

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream position, jointly appointed in the Department of Philosophy (75%) and the Centre for Medieval Studies (25%) in the area of Classical Islamic Philosophy. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Philosophy, Medieval Studies, or a closely related field, with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be a specialist in Classical Islamic Philosophy from the 9th to the 12th centuries CE with a primary focus on falsafah. Knowledge of the impact of Islamic philosophy on Western medieval philosophy will be an asset. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance the existing strengths at the Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Medieval Studies. The successful candidate will also play an active role in the Collaborative Specialization in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

The new professor will teach and undertake research in the area of Political Philosophy. He/she will have expertise in the following research areas: Justice, Human Rights, Legitimacy and Theory of Democracy, including trans- and international aspects. An interest in questions of applied political philosophy and the ability to connect to empirical questions are required. Expertise in the history of political philosophy is desirable. The Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University invites applications from a broad range of researchers and practitioners who will work over the course of the year on pressing issues in ethics. Faculty in arts and sciences and professional schools, postdoctoral scholars, practitioners, and researchers from industry, government, and NGOs are eligible to apply. The call for applications for the 2024-25 is completely open: we will consider any topic pertaining to the serious ethical questions of our time. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply and will be given careful consideration; priority will be given to outstanding early career scholars and practitioners.

As always, our goal will be to craft a cohort in which all fellows will find valuable intellectual partnerships to support and spur their work. The ideal candidates are those who are willing to invest time and energy into building community with the other fellows in their cohort.

Fellows-in-Residence will be expected to devote the majority of their time to their individual projects and to participate in regular work-in-progress seminars. ELIGIBILITY

Faculty:

Mark Coeckelbergh – is seeking to appoint a graduate in philosophy or neighboring disciplines to a PhD Level Research Position with focus on environmental ethics and/or technology ethics. Since the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Science is a research institution with no PhD program of its own, the position is to be combined with PhD study at a Czech university under supervision of a CETE-P research team member.

The successful candidate is expected (1) to study a PhD program at one of Czech universities of their choice, with a PhD project supervised by a CETE-P research team member, and (2) participate in the research activities of CETE-P in collaboration with the supervisor, the CETE-P research team leader and prof. Research Assistant Professor (Philosophy of Science)

Applications are invited from outstanding postdoctoral researchers for the position of Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Humanities at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

We seek to appoint a Research Assistant Professor to build research capacity in philosophy of science. We particularly encourage applicants who work in integrated history and philosophy of science. Expertise in philosophy of biology and/or philosophy of social science would be an advantage.

Applicants should have a commitment to research and teaching excellence. They should have a PhD, a strong publication record, and a developing trajectory as Principal or Co-Investigator on funded projects.

The appointee will be expected to publish strongly, write grant proposals, manage graduate students and/or Post-doctoral Fellows, organize workshops and seminars, and develop international collaborations. The appointee will teach one undergraduate course in Humanities for general education and/or one postgraduate course on the MPhil in Humanities program offered by the School of Humanities and Social Science. English is the medium of instruction and administration at the University.
