An der Fakultät für Gesundheit der Universität Witten/Herdecke, Department für Psychologie und Psychotherapie ist zum Wintersemester 2016/17 die Universitätsprofessur für Philosophische Grundlagen der Psychologie (W2-analog) zu besetzen.
Die Universität Witten/Herdecke wurde als erste private Universität in Deutschland im Jahr 1982 gegründet. Die Studiengänge der Fakultät für Gesundheit (Humanmedizin, Zahnmedi-zin, BA/MA Pflegewissenschaft, B. Sc. /M. Sc. Psychologie, weitere berufsbegleitende MA-Studiengänge) zeichnen sich durch problemorientiertes Lernen, große Praxisnähe und Patientenorientierung, differenzierte Auswahlverfahren, Stärkung der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung sowie durch intensive studentische Partizipation aus.
Aufgabenbereich
Die neue Professur soll in Lehre und Forschung die philosophischen Grundlagen der Psychologie vertreten. Ein Forschungsschwerpunkt an der Schnittstelle von Philosophie und Psychologie ist erforderlich. Erwünscht ist dabei insbesondere eine ausgewiesene Expertise in einem der folgenden Bereiche: Erkenntnis- /wissenschaftstheoretische Grundlagen der Psychologie, Embodiment oder Bewusstseinsforschung. In der Lehre sollen in den BSc- und MSc-Studiengängen des Departments die erkenntnistheoretischen, methodologischen, ethischen und wissenschaftshistorischen Grundlagen der Psychologie und – soweit möglich auch der Psychotherapie – aus philosophischer Perspektive behandelt werden.
Die Studiengänge Psychologie und Psychotherapie (B.Sc.) und Klinische Psychologie und Psychotherapiewissenschaft (M.Sc.) zeichnen sich durch eine klinische Ausrichtung aus; seitens der Stelleninhaberin/des Stelleninhabers ist die Bereitschaft zur Anwendung und Weiterentwicklung von neuen Lehr- und Prüfungsformen sowie eine Aufgeschlossenheit gegenüber dem klinischen Ausbildungs- und Forschungsumfeld der Fakultät erwünscht.
Anforderungen
Einstellungsvoraussetzung ist die Habilitation oder eine gleichwertige wissenschaftliche Leistung nach einem Studium der Psychologie oder einem anderen einschlägigen Fach. Die Fakultät sucht in Lehre und Forschung international ausgewiesene Persönlichkeiten. Soziale Kompetenz, ein teamorientierter Arbeitsstil und die Fähigkeit zur erfolgreichen Drittmitteleinwerbung werden vorausgesetzt. Erwartet wird die Sicherstellung der Lehre im jeweiligen Fachgebiet für Studierende der Fakultät für Gesundheit.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
for a fixed term from October 1, 2015 to August 31, 2018 (35 months) associated
with the Academy of Finland project, "Dependence and Independence in Logic:
Foundations and Philosophical Significance".
The project is led by Professor Gabriel Sandu and also includes funding for
another
3-year post-doctoral position from September 1, 2016 onwards (and will be
advertised later on).
This is an interdisciplinary project which will focus on the systematic
analysis of notions of dependence and independence that have emerged from
recent work in logic (Independence Friendly-Logic, Dependence Logic,
Independence Logic, Modal Dependence Logic, etc) in contrast to counterfactual
notions of dependence/independence based on the work of Lewis and Stalnaker
(closest possible world) and causal notions of dependence (Pearl).
There is some flexibility in the exact research area of the postdoc, but it
should have a clear bearing on one of the project's central goals, which
include
1. The development of extensions of dependence/independence logics with modal,
epistemic and probabilistic notions.
2. The study of the differences between functional, probabilistic and causal
notions of dependence/independence in relation to their explanatory role in
recent applications (social choice theory, quantum theory, linguistics).
3. The significance of dependence/independence logics for philosophy of logic
and foundations of mathematics.
The salary will be 3 140 euros per month. It is based on levels 5/3 in the
salary system of Finnish universities.

Permanent position of Full Professor in the Classe di Scienze umane, academic field 11/C5, academic discipline HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY.

- teach students within academic discipline of History of Renaissance Philosophy (M-FIL/06) in the Scuola’s ordinary and specialization courses and in the other didactic activities that the Scuola may from time to time organise in accordance with the statute of the Scuola, within annual organisation;

Responsibilities
As a PhD candidate, you will conduct research on the PhD project The Reception of Thomas Aquinas’ Philosophical Psychology (13th-17th centuries).
Short description of the project:
The introduction of the corpus aristotelicum into university curricula in the 13th century created tensions in the various branches of natural philosophy, metaphysics and ethics. In the field of philosophical psychology, Thomas Aquinas was among the first authors to incorporate the views of Aristotle (and of his commentator Averroes) in his accounts of the soul. He did so against a background that was largely dominated by Neoplatonizing authors such as Augustine and Avicenna. Unsurprisingly, Aquinas’ psychological views rapidly became the object of debate and remained a permanent point of reference. Aquinas’ views thus constitute an excellent starting point for a study of aspects of philosophical psychology from the late Middle Ages until the early modern period.
The Research Institute in Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies calls for PhD proposals concerning a specific aspect of the reception of Thomas Aquinas’ views in the field of philosophical psychology from the late 13th until the 17th century. Possible topics are: soul and body; soul and substantial form; the powers and habits of the soul; the immortality of the soul; the ‘separate’ soul and its powers; etc. The Institute especially welcomes proposals that combine doctrinal and institutional perspectives (e.g. ecclesiastical condemnations, university regulations, etc.) on the reception of Aquinas’ views.
Work environment
The Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies aims at providing the best possible academic learning and working environment for its 600 students and 140 staff members.
The PhD project will be carried out as part of the Faculty’s Research Programme I (‘Competing Worldviews’) in the Chair of History of Philosophy. You will participate in regular research seminars and be a part of a lively research environment. You will be trained and supervised in accordance with the regulations of the Radboud Graduate School for the Humanities. You will be a member of this school and have access to all courses, meetings and facilities offered by it.
What we expect from you
- MA in philosophy, preferably in the history of medieval and/or early modern philosophy;
- good knowledge of Latin and excellent command of written and spoken English (C2 level);
- ability to conduct research autonomously, analyse complex problems and develop sound arguments;
- maturity, self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player;
- good communication and organizational skills.
What we have to offer
- employment: 0,8 - 1,0 fte;
- in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
- gross starting salary will amount to €2,125 per month based on full-time employment, and will increase to €2,717 per month in the fourth year (P scale);
- in accordance with university policy, you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years (in case of a 0.8 appointment: by 3.5 years);

Within the Département de Philosophie, Éthique et Sciences des Religions et de la laïcité at the Université libre de Bruxelles, there is a vacancy for a fully funded 3-year fellowship in the context of the ARC project „Transformations of practical reason in early modern philosophy prior to Kant”, directed by Prof. Arnaud Pelletier (https://www.ulb.ac.be/recherche/presentation/en-arcpelletieren.html). Within this project, which has three parts, the candidate will work on one of the two following issues:
either Leibniz: Practical reason and the Science of prudence
The main focus of this first topic is to address Leibniz’s practical philosophy through the particular investigation of the project of a « science of prudence » (its genesis, evolution and challenges). The new conceptualization of practical reason should also be compared to both the contemporary projects of a "moral science" and the Leibnizian scope of wisdom understood as a "science of happiness".
or The primacy of practical reason before Kant
The main focus of this second topic will be that of the origin and ensuing modifications of the idea of a "primacy of practical reason" (over theoretical reason) in pre-Kantian philosophy (addressing, for instance, authors like Thomasius, Crusius or Baumgarten as far as the 18th century is concerned) in order to investigate the different ways to address the genuine normativity of the practical reason and its relationship to the theoretical reason.
The thesis can be written in French or in English, but the candidate must be able to present his/her research and to take part in seminars in French. From the first year, active participation in the doctoral program and the activities of the Research Center in Philosophy (http://phi.ulb.ac.be/) and of the Research Group in Modern Philosophy, as well as contributions to journals and international conferences are expected. The candidate may have small administrative tasks (organization of conferences, etc.) within the ARC project.
Requirements: - MA in Philosophy (or a justification that it has been passed in 2015)
- Good knowledge of early modern philosophy
- Written and oral competence in French
- A minimum command of Latin and German would be an asset

The University of Warwick is seeking to appoint a full-time, one-year postdoctoral fellow based in the Department of Philosophy, as part of the research grant 'experimental philosophy and empirical ethics: a historical reconstruction and philosophical assessment' (XPHI), funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
The successful candidate will study the viability of an empirical science of ethics. He or she will join a research team working on the metaphysical and theological commitments of early modern experimental philosophers, eighteenth-century attempts to articulate an experimental moral philosophy, and recent proposals for locating moral philosophy within an experimental philosophy framework. The team is formed by Dr Alberto Vanzo (PI, Warwick), Professor Peter Anstey (Sydney) and Professor Tom Sorell (Warwick).
The successful candidate will prepare research articles, conference presentations and blog posts on his or her research, co-organise a workshop that will form the basis for a special journal issue or an edited volume, and participate in the project's outreach activities.

We have an open vacancy for a project assistant in the framework of the LogiCIC project on 'The Logical Structure of Correlated Information Change' (ERC-2011-STG No. 283963), funded by the European Research Council and the European Community under the Seventh Framework Programme.
