at the Department of Philosophy

The advertised position is situated in the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy and Education. The Department is large (by international comparison) and its members have a considerable variety of areas of competence. This motivates both the duty to offer a teaching programme that spans the full breadth of the discipline, and the intention to satisfy high standards of research performance. The Department attaches great value to the core areas of philosophy, but it also has the aim to contribute, on their basis, to the clarification and solution of current problems. The intention to acknowledge new philosophical developments and tasks is reflected in the number of co-operations and research fields of the department.

Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching (extent of teaching duties as prescribed by the above-mentioned wage agreement), and administration at the Department of Philosophy in the research area "Analytic Philosophy with Special Emphasis on Philosophy of Language", led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Max Kölbel. This research area currently addresses questions in:
Philosophy of language
Epistemology
Metaphysics
Metaethics

The main task is to complete a research project that leads to publications that can be successfully submitted for the award of of the degree "Habilitation" in the Austrian academic system. This would typically be a research monograph or a series of journal articles. This research project should contribute to the range of topics addressed in the research area (see above). A description of the Habilitation project (approx. 3000 words) must be submitted as part of the application.

Profile:
To be successful, applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

- Excellent PhD / Doctoral degree in Philosophy

- International conference- and publishing activities in at least one of the above mentioned research areas, preferably Philosophy of Language

- teaching experience commensurate with stage of career

- organisational skills and team-spirit

- the willingness to acquire, within three years from the point of appointment, a command of the German language that is sufficient to teach at the Bachelor- and Master-level, and to participate in university committees.
