HEAD, DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

St Augustine seeks to appoint a Head of the Department of Philosophy at the rank of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be responsible for
• Oversight and development of the Philosophy programmes
• Supervision of students’ research
• Initiate, coordinate and conduct academic research and research projects
• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Participate in other aspects of the work of St Augustine

Applicants must possess or demonstrate the following:
• A Doctoral degree in Philosophy
• An area of specialisation (AOS) in Ethics or History of Philosophy. Areas of competency (AOC) are open, African Philosophy a plus
• An understanding of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition
• The capacity to teach over a substantial breadth. This will be considered an asset
• Teaching experience within a multicultural setting
• Strong skills in verbal communication and inter-personal relationships
• A very good publication record and relevant research experience
• The ability to work as part of team
• Previous experience in lecturing at tertiary level as a strong recommendation
