The Department of Philosophy at the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Arts and
Humanities is seeking to fill the position of
Full Professor (W3) of Philosophy with the Focus on Theoretical Philosophy
by 01/10/2018.
The successful candidate is expected to represent the discipline of philosophy, in particular
the field of theoretical philosophy, in research and teaching. With regard to teaching, all
areas of theoretical philosophy need to be covered (esp. logic, including an introductory
course, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, and ontology). With
regard to research, the applicant should be proficient in at least two of these areas. The
position holder will also share responsibilities in the field that covers the history of
philosophy.
Active participation is expected in all degree courses in the field of philosophy as well as in
teaching exports and interdisciplinary collaborations provided by the Department. Active
participation is also expected in the development and expansion of interdisciplinary research
initiatives, especially within the University’s key fields of research. International experience
and experience with academic self-government are required. Experience in the acquisition of
third-party funds is desired. The willingness to give courses in English is required.
The necessary qualifications are defined in § 58 of the State Higher Education Law of
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern LHG M-V).
They include a university degree, a doctorate and teaching aptitude, as well as additional
scholarly achievements and academic services which are generally attained through a junior
professorship, a habilitation thesis or equivalent.
In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professor appointed will be assigned the status of a
civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis) with unlimited tenure; alternatively, if the applicant is not
permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee.
This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender. The University would like to

have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow
