About the opportunity

The School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI) is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Political Philosophy who has an outstanding research profile and demonstrated teaching excellence. This is a fixed term (mid 2022 – mid 2025) Associate Lecturer (Level A) position.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research program, produce high quality publications, participate in the department's research culture, contribute to teaching at all levels and undertake appropriate administrative roles and curriculum development as required. They will also be expected to contribute to outreach and engagement initiatives.

We are looking for an academic with expertise in Political Philosophy, and the ability to teach into other areas of need in the curriculum. These might include Logic, Ethics, Critical thinking, and Epistemology. The successful candidate will teach senior units such as PHIL2635 Contemporary Political Philosophy and PHIL2634 Democratic Theory and will teach into the first-year unit PHIL1013 Society, Self, and Knowledge.

About you

We are seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Political Philosophy who has:

• a PhD in Philosophy
• an active research program with significant potential for future publication in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals and presses
• demonstrated teaching excellence (including unit of study coordination experience and capacity to teach introductory units of study as well as specialised higher-level courses) and ability to supervise advanced UG and Honours students in fields of speciality
• skills in community outreach and public engagement.
